Kane County Sheriff’s Office deputies pulled a South Elgin man from a burning pickup truck after a single-vehicle crash Tuesday night on Dunham Road in unincorporated St. Charles Township.
According to a Sheriff’s Office news release, deputies were dispatched at about 7:45 p.m. Tuesday (March 29, 2022) to the area of the 6N900 block of Dunham Road for a report of a vehicle that had left the roadway, overturned and was on fire.
Deputies Steven Turcios and Ryan Reichardt arrived on the scene and observed that a Chevrolet pickup truck was on fire.
“The deputies reacted quickly and were able to pull the driver out of the vehicle,” Kane County Sheriff Ron Hain said in the news release.
Hain said the driver, who was later identified as Thomas Dabek, 41, of South Elgin, was the sole occupant of the vehicle.
Dabek was transported to Northwestern Delnor Hospital with serious injuries. He was eventually flown to Loyola Medical Center for further treatment.
Prior to being transferred to Loyola, Dabek was charged with two counts of Driving Under the Influence of Alcohol and issued an I-bond.
