BELLINGHAM, Washington.  A pickup truck was stolen from a residential driveway off of Valencia and Texas Street in Bellingham at approximately 6:20 a.m. on Monday morning.

The victims brother Michael Melcher told Bellingham Metro News that the stolen pickup truck was a Red 2000 F250 lariat, with a 7′ tool Box on the passenger side, a black lumber rack, 8′ bed, and has a dent on the rear-end of the passenger side truck bed.

The entire theft was captured on an Xfinity surveillance camera that was placed above the driveway. — The camera highlighted the thief gaining access to the vehicle in under two-minutes.

Part way through the surveillance footage, it showed a passer-by car and the thief sort of leaning back trying to avoid being spotted by the car. — If you are the driver of that vehicle who was out around 6:20 a.m. on Valencia and Texas street and saw something suspicious, please contact Bellingham Police Department.

This theft comes after a recent string of thefts within the Bellingham city limits. — Bellingham Metro News recently reported a string of high risk thefts in multiple neighborhoods of Bellingham.

On January 20th, a white pickup truck was stolen from a commercial street parking-lot in Downtown Bellingham. — The car was recovered over a week later on January 29th with major damage done to the vehicle and even stripped of parts.

On January 20th at approximately 1:45 a.m. vehicle prowlers were scared away by a light system of a house on Lyle street and Ellis street. — That incident was also captured on surveillance footage and was submitted to BMN.

Whatcom County Fire District 16 announced on Saturday that $18,000 worth of life saving equipment had been stolen from their firehouse — They shared in a post that 5 power saws, 2 generators, 1 combination battery powered tool, 1 battery powered flood light had been stolen and that “no questions would be asked” if returned to the firehouse.

A Vietnam war vet living in Bellingham also reported that his bike was stolen from ‘Greens corner’ located on James street in Bellingham. — The incident has occurred on Monday January 30th. — Pat was reportedly heartbroken as he had traveled thousands of miles on that bike and that it ‘means the world’ to him.

With these recent strings of thefts in Bellingham, Washington, its now time to invoke the ‘See something, say something’ pact’, as this is expected to only get worse as these criminals begin to get away with it more and more.

Residents of Bellingham and all around Whatcom County need to begin in investing in Surveillance systems around their properties, and in good spots on their property’s, we need to start putting names to the faces of these thief’s.

We must come together as a community and put an end to the reign of organized theft crime in Whatcom County.
